That's me too. We tell my dad start time an hour in advance and he's still late to family functions.

My dad's the same way! He once showed up 3 hours late to hit tennis with me. Funny thing is that he picked the time he wanted to hit at. When I brought up his lateness, he said, "You know, son, we always see the faults in others that are most apparent in ourselves."

I'm the same way. I can't stand even being 5-10 minutes late, but sometimes when I get somewhere 30-40 minutes early for some function and practically no one's there, my friends like to rib on me for having no life. Yeah, I'm single.

At least he has a few smooth comebacks now after a lifetime of lateness. I guess there are a few positives to being late.
1) Plan the extra 10 minutes or whatever into your shcedule and bring a book, music or whatever to keep you occupied. If you plan the lateness, it probably won't be such an irritant (and then if they are ontime, you jut ahve extra time), or 2) If they are consistently late, just appear late as well (by 5 or 10 minutes). It becomes the new 'on-time'. Just don't tell them.
There is, of course, 3) Leave even if they aren't there. But that is really a last resort.
