Keepers with Round value

I'm considering proposing a change to the league to institute keepers with escalating round value.

I only have one question on the logistics of this.

If I make a trade for someone else's fourth round player and I subsequently want to keep my fourth round pick and the fourth round pick I traded for.... how is this typically handled...

I see a two options:
1)You can't do it.
2)I must forgo my third and second round picks to do so. (normal escalation of one round is third round, and then forgo a round higher to keep a logjammed slot... but the player still is valued at a 3rd round for future keeping purposes)

Again, this is prospective, there is no constitution or other discussion to consult.

In situations like this in which you keeping a 4th rounder and you also trade for a 4th rounder, the cost would be a 4th and the next available round (5th in most cases). You could also just use the O-rank of the player divided by the number of teams in the league to get a round value.

The way this would work in our league would be to lose a 3rd and 4th rounder as a result. I think as long as you aren't pushing guys down from their original draft slot, you're fine.

pay down one round then up one round (5,3,6,2,7,1)

If you hit a max (as in hit 1st round and cant pay up any more) pay down double (5,6)
