XP Question

I would like to buy XP Pro SP2 but not sure what to do. I have a Windows 2000 disc and someone told me that I can just get an upgrade version of XP? Also what is OEM? Finally, where is a cheap and reliable place to buy? Thanks.

You can get an upgrade version, they usually cost about $100 less. OEM when it comes to software usually means it is software that was created to work on specific hardware. Normally you can get an OEM copy of Windows to work on any PC, but typically you will have to track down all the drivers separately since the OEM will not have the ones specific to your machine.

Sweet thanks. So the only thing I need to worry about are the drivers? And I should be able to get an XP upgrade?

Sure, and the bonus is the upgrade should be fairly easy. XP is just the next release version of 2000 anyways. Going from Win9x or ME can be a pain since the architecture of those OSs is quite a bit different.

Normally you need to get Sound, Audio, and Network (the network at the bare minimum since once that is back up and running you can D/L the others directly to the system) plus any oddball devices that might not have drivers built into the install disk by default like after market system cards.
