http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2 ... id=3052904Straight from Steinbrenner. Can't help but think this is an attempt from Steinbrenner to get the players to rally and sort of 'win for Joe', much like they did mid-season this year when Steinbrenner threatened Torre and Cashman. Girardi and Mattingly are the two most obvious replacements for Torre should the Yankees get knocked out.

I don't really like the timing all that much. The players need to focus on the game and remember that they are the best offense in the league, not worry about your coach's job status.

I'd like to make a correction. Torre will not be 'fired', because his contract is up at the end of the year. The Yankees will just go in a different direction and not bring him back.

I don't like the timing either.
I'd like to see Girardi manage the team though. In Mattingly's few games of managing he's shown that he'll abuse his relievers as much if not more than Joe Torre has.

If Torre is indeed not resigned, where are the likely places he would go? Or would he retire?
He'd retire.

I think I've been calling for Torre's job for a few years now
I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment

See ya later Joe Torre, whew had to be a tough job being given the best lineup money can buy. Whew. Torre seems like a nice guy, just a little over-rated.
