Even if he never touched the plate, Barrett didn't catch the ball and never tagged him.
You can see on the replay that the toe of Barrett's cleat is up in the air as Holliday slides in. Though it begins to come down as Holliday's hand goes for the plate. It is nearly impossible to tell if his hand got in there.
Holliday said he got stepped on and if he has any marks on the tops of his fingers I think that would be conclusive evidence.
There is only one man's opinion who counts for anything and he called him safe.
Here are my findings!!! Note where the baseline lines up with the plate in the first few pics. Then notice what looks to be Hollidays hand over that line and therefore quiet possibly touching the plate. Note it appears Barrett is stepping on his arm/handwhich ties in with Matts story of being stepped on.
I voted for inconclusive after looking at the replay a few times. Very close, but you can't clearly tell if he was safe or out. If I had to make a decision I would say that he didn't touch the plate.

It doesn't matter now, but if I couldn't discuss things that didn't matter, I'd be sad.
I don't think the fingers extend farther than the swish. If that is his elbow at the top of the area you highlighted, then the angle of his arm would not allow his hand to extend out like that. Cool Pics btw.

Anyone got a up to date measurement on hollidays fingers?? He is a big dude. yea thats my only thing the angle is weird. however, This one camera angle is all we really have which is strange.
On a second note its almost like his arm is being stepped on and bent. I don't think he could have made that angle but it could also be a camera angle...
Strange picture don't you think hard to make a ton out of it.
This is insane. He was either safe by virtue of touching the plate or safe by virtue of interference. A catcher CANNOT block the plate without the ball, period, end of story. Just because the ump *usually* bends the rule and allows it doesn't change the rule when he doesn't decide to bend it. By the book, he was safe by one of two measures. End of story.
