Beltran in 2008?

Postby bcb » Tue Sep 25, 2007 11:45 am

I've had Beltran on my team for the last two years (6x6, 11-player keeper), and I'm Carlosed out. He puts up decent 5- or 6-tool numbers, but he always seems to be nicked up or flirting with the DL. I know he has a reputation for being soft, but he's had 500+ ABs again this year. I think last year was an anomaly - a brief uptick on a downward slide. So, where does it rank for OFers in a keeper?

Here's 15 to choose from:

Vets:
Holliday
Vlad
Craw
Beltran
Maggs
Lee
Hunter
Byrnes
Soriano

Up-and-comers:
Upton (if eligible in your league)
Granderson
Sizemore
Rios
Markasis
Rowand

I haven't and won't really look into my rankings for next year until this year is over with. With that said I will throw out an early prediction of Beltrans numbers for next year and you can do with them what you like... :-)

Beltran 2008
.275 avg
31 HR
110 RBI
105 Runs
22 SB

....in other words pretty much just like this year but with a few more Runs.

I think Beltran will be a 2nd round pick next year. The only outfielders that I would definitely rank above him are Holliday, Crawford, Sizemore, and Soriano. Vlad and C. Lee are close, though I'd probably draft Beltran over them because of the 20+ steals.

Beltran should be a 2nd rounder next year. I just don't see his upside sliding any further. Nagging injuries and his struggles hitting at Shea figured in, but Beltran is surely a top 10 OF in my book, top 5 really. I'd take Holliday, Sizemore, and Soriano over Beltran, but he and Crawford are fairly close in value in my mind while I prefer Beltran over Vlad and Carlos Lee.
