Sooo Atkins.....now what to do with him?

He was highly ranked by many (including me) going into this year. Then he proceeded to pull a Neifi Perez on us the first couple months of the season. But since June 1st he's been great.

What do you think of him now? Is he back to his preseason status....are you still scared of him for next year?

He's 2 for 4 so far today.... up to a .295 avg on the year. (.329 since June 1st 368ABs)

I'm high on him. What's not to like? Another solid season from a good young hitter playing in Coors, with an outstanding surrounding cast. Now I just have to decide whether I'm ranking him over Ramirez or not....

I think they will still try to move Helton and Atkins takes over at 1B.

Atkins is turning out to be a huge second half performer. Keep that in mind on draft day folks.

Thats a good point...Helton to the Sox again sounds plausible. Although Helton is the most low key guy ever so Boston/NY would probably suck for him

FWIW I read the other day that the Rox might try to move Stewart to 2B, and then all of them could play. Not sure how feasible that is though.

The article I saw said he could "be their Utley." Not sure if that's the case or not. I've never seen the kid play and don't even know how big he is, but I know he's supposed to have a decent bat. That would be a solid lineup to say the least.

I'm gonna go ahead and say not, based exclusively on the fact that Utley's defense is worlds above Stewart's.

I traded for Atkins in late May and these are the numbers he has collected for me in 380 AB's:

0.3289 AVG, 0.3907 OBP, 0.5447 SLG with 20 HR's and 84 RBI's. Not bad.

I think Atkins is a top 5 3B next year. I also like him better than Ramirez, though I doubt others will (given his poor start this year).

1. A-Rod (1st round)
2. Wright (1st round)
3. MCab (1st/2nd round)
4. Braun (3rd/4th round)
5. Atkins (4th round)
6. Ramirez (4th round)

It would be sweet if the Rox can trade Helton and move GA over to first, but Helton's contract is going to be very tough to move.
