This should be interesting, the Yankees generally have trouble with the Devil Rays so this matchup isn't as automatic as it seems for him.

It will probably be three starts. He's closing in on his innings cap for the season.

YANKEES MISTAKE RE: Chamberlain

Postby talk show host » Wed Aug 29, 2007 11:22 am

Some NY writers are questioning the Yanks...With 0 room for error , why pitch Ian kennedy who has NEVER appeared in a game over starting JOBA CHAMBERLAIN
I say, Dont protect JOBA ..let him pitch.Get into the playoffs Keep him on a short leash..the moment the "expert" coaches suspect velocity down turn or anything else.. then pull him , but let him go for now Anyone agree?

...And then they screw up his arm and end up losing him for the playoffs. You don't throw a young potential ace back and forth from starter to reliever to limit his innings and then back to starter as a panic move.

not at all.... the yankees need joba in the pen. besides visciano that bullpen is very shaky so w/ joba in the pen and pitching 8th visciano can pitch the 7th and be used in more spots.

dont protect joba? joba is finally healthy this yr and u wanna mess w/ his arm? def not a smart idea keep him in the pen bring down his inngs and save his arm. thats just a dumb idea IMO. I LIVE IN NY and i dont see any writers saying this about joba.. thats such a crazy idea.

Joba has lots more value right now as the Yankees 8th inning man then he would as the 5th starter. Kennedy has done well in AAA, so bring him up and see if he can give the rotation the shot in the arm that Joba has given the bullpen.

Agreed with everyone but talk show host.

Moving Joba back and forth is a terrible idea. And for the amount of time left in the season, he is much more valuable in the 8th inning role.

Without him, all they have is Vizcaino. They need to be able to have Vizcaino for the 7th, not just the mess of other guys they have.

As bad as Tampa Bay is, it's their pitching that's the problem not their hitting, so this is not a great matchup for him.

As bad as it hurts me to say it, Tampa's offense is below the league average so it is not a bad matchup for Kennedy either. As long as Kennedy can limit the chances that Upton, Pena, and Crawford get to hurt him, he stands a good chance against the other 5 or 6 batters.
