Vs Detroit (2nd for runs scored in MLB) 7 IP/1 ER/ 0 BB/ 9 K
Vs Boston (4th for runs scored in MLB) 6 IP/ 1 ER/ 0 BB/ 5 K
Vs Cleveland (10th runs scored) 6 IP/ 2 ER/ 1 BB/ 6 K
3 of the top ten teams in runs , in consecutive outings , scored 4 ER against him in 19 IP.
I think we can put June and July down to learning his craft , as he had only pitched 124.2 major league innings before this season.
Must-have later-round pitcher of 2008?
Yes

I don't think there was any doubt Shields was legit. He had two rough outings against the red hot Yankees in July and two poor games against Arizona and Colorado in jUne, both away and both in extreme hitters parks. Besides those games he's been a model of consistency all season.

I made it a priority to trade for Shields in my keeper league this year. Love his stuff and getting him the 21st round next year in my keeper league is well worth it in my eyes.
