Something else that was touched on was that the Rangers were going station to station. Perfect example, at one point (6th or 8th inning) they had the bases loaded and back to back singles only scored one run each. Sound like running up the score to you?
Several additional good points have been mentioned as well. I watched the game start to finish and the kids were simply hammering the ball because they want playing time for next year. Catalanotto actually seemed to feel sorry for Baltimore while at the plate towards the end. K'd and didn't look like he really took a good swing at anything.
Tavish mentioned burning through the other team's pitchers, which with this being the first game of a doubleheader, definitely makes sense as well.
So all in all, they really were not trying to run up the score, but they were not giving away at-bats either. Tough spot to be in really.
