don't be suprised if he misses the rest of the season.... there is talk about him possibly having surgery to shave the bone spurs out that were bothering him before he fell on his arm

DETROIT -- The news on the injury front hasn't been good for the Detroit Tigers most of the season. The latest blow came Monday with the news that Gary Sheffield would be placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to August 22 with a sore right shoulder injury.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said the decision was based in part on Sheffield's shoulder not healing as quickly as expected.

"Our original plan was, we could go probably six, maybe, six, seven days if you didn't DL him," Leyland said. "But that was if the shoulder was responding to where we felt like it would be ready to play in six or seven days, and it's not. And it's not going to be, so we're re-calling Timo Perez (from Triple-A Toledo) who will be here today or tomorrow."
