No offense to the dead but Rizzuto is one of the players that has no reason to be in the HOF as a player. But as a broadcaster, he's well deserving.

I just saw a clip of him the other day getting knocked down by a cow on the field in some celebration before a game. Funny stuff. RIP Scooter.

A nice statement from the Boss on his passing:

"I guess heaven must have needed a shortstop. Phil Rizzuto's contributions to the Yankees and the sport of baseball were immense for a period of over 50 years. He was one of the greatest Yankees of all time and a dear, close friend of mine whose loss is enormous to me and to the entire Yankee family. He epitomized the Yankee spirit -- gritty and hard charging -- and he wore the pinstripes proudly. While Scooter may have been smaller in size than some, he was among the tallest in his stature as a Yankee. He was a favorite of fans both as a player and later as a broadcaster. His voice and "Holy Cow" will be part of baseball for as long as we play the game. No one deserved his place in the Hall of Fame more than Number 10. Our condolences to his wife, Cora, and the rest of his family."

That was just Phil's luck. It was actually a 'Holy Cow' they presented to him on Phil Rizzuto day...it could only happen to Phil. Listening to him do Yankee games was great. He was always saying something wrong, or funny and running out of the booth before the end of the game to avoid traffic on the GWB. A few examples:

"And the ball is out here. No, it's not. Yes it is. No, it's not. What happened."
"Well, that kind of puts a damper on even a Yankees win."

"I like radio better than television because if you make a mistake on radio, they don't know. You can make up anything on the radio."
"Those huckleberries in the National League didn't want to do anything (DH in Series) that the American League want to do."

"I'm glad I don't play anymore. I could never learn all those handshakes."
