Bobby Jenks tied a major league record on Sunday by retiring the 41st consecutive batter he faced.
Jenks pitched a scoreless ninth with the White Sox down 6-0. When he retired Yuniesky Betancourt to complete the inning, it tied him with the Giants' Jim Barr for the most consecutive batters retired. The streak, dating back to July 17, has lowered Jenks' ERA almost a full run.
thats pretty amazing in my opinion, over a game and a half of perfect innings
I'm a big fan of the big man. This streak is really impressive considering Jenks has always been the type of closer who makes it exiting before recording the save.
Man, I still remember him being profiled on Baseball Tonight back when he was in the Angel's farm system. His stuff has NEVER been an issue... I'm just glad he got his head and his drinking in check enough to make it shine through.
I bet Anaheim is kicking themselves for letting him go, or trading him for a sack of balls, or whatever happened. Imagine either him setting up K-Rod, or the value he'd bring as trade bait down the stretch.
