thats pretty silly. byrnes has been moved around so much and you can throw 2005 out the door. he was traded twice within 2 weeks. no one would be comfortable in that situation. AND his career avg, obp, and ops are all very similar to torii's. and personally, i think he has better potential for sb's. arizona's a young aggressive rising team. i like his lineup around him.

if torii goes to texas i think his value takes a hit unless they sign another hitter or two. they wouldnt have any protection behind him (asusming they hit m young 3rd and torii 4th).

both players are very similar, i just have a preference for byrnes i guess.

Jason Kubel is considered protection? You put Torii in that bandbox and he goes .280-30-100 easy. Quentin will be a better player in his prime than Byrnes and the Backs gave the money to Eric. 1st bad move they made in a while. Career year for both, but Byrnes can't carry Torii's jock.

yeah but with mauer, cuddyer, morneau hitting in front of torii, you cant pitch around him that way either. can you please show me some stats where byrnes cant hold torii's jock? certainly not avg, obp, ops, sb's, hr's

i am usually weary of guys who sign big contracts because they don't try as hard the following year. happened with soriano and happened in football with alexander. but when it comes to byrnes, i can't help thinking that he's gonna play the same way day in and day out no matter what; he only knows to play all out. i think he's one of those rare players that's gonna give it his all despite the big contract. in the two games he played after signing his contract, he still went on to steal a base in each of those games (yes, that's a terribly small sample). i am gonna give byrnes the edge here because he's remaining with the same team that's giving him the green light on the basepaths. the edge torii has in power can always be made up by someone else, but SBs are harder to come by.
