Is Johnny Damon a part-time player now?

Postby Doughhead » Wed Aug 08, 2007 6:30 pm

I know that the Yankees' lineup is a bit crowded now that Giambino is back. Is Damon going to be riding the pine half the time?

I doubt it'll be half the time, he'll play CF and LF every now and then. The player that really loses the most value would be Melky.

I don't know--I read somewhere that Torre has committed to Melky as his full-time CF.

From Rob Hurtt of the Sporting News, 8/9:

FORTUNES FALLING
Johnny Damon, OF, Yankees. Giambi's return must cost someone, and it appears Giambi might gain DH at-bats at the expense of our favorite former caveman. Damon and Hideki Matsui have been splitting time between left field and DH, and Damon has fallen from being a top pick to serving as a marginal lineup choice in smaller mixed leagues. Full column

And on top of that, Shelley Duncan has been making a strong bid for NYY playing time.... :-{ But who's a better WW option vs. Damon ... Chris B. Young? Eh. Milton Bradley ... bound to sprain a toenail as soon as you pick him up.

With one month left in the season, I'm officially cutting ties with him. He's been sucking it up all year and I've been putting up with it but his only value was getting on base in that Yankee lineup. Now that he won't even play at least 80% of the remaining games he's worthless. Damn you Johnny, kept you 4 1/2 months too long :-t

Same here. I've been a hardcore Damon supporter all season long, but I'm done with him.

I have Dye, Byrnes, Cuddyer, and H Matsui - should I just drop Dead Weight Damon? I could pick up almost anybody that will at least play every day.

I hate sitting on the edge of my seat to see if he might play or not. Drop him?

Thanks and WHIR
