I had big expectations for him but wow. He throws his slider as hard as a lot of guys throw their fastball. A 95+ mph fastball, an 88 mph slider and a curve? His stuff is definitely better than Hughes'.
He won't stay in the bullpen. I was wrong about the move at first. This is a great move to limit his innings, get him big league experience and help the team make the playoffs.
Wang/Hughes/Chamberlain/Kennedy plus a Karstens/Rasner/Clippard is going to be one hell of a rotation in a couple years.
I heard one of the yankees broadcasters say that Joba is going to be a starter because he has too many pitches and has command. You want a guy like that as a starter because they are a little more poised and have more to work with over the length of a game
If you count holds, why wouldn't you? He won't pitch every day, but when he pitches it's lights out. I mean, it's mid-August; who are you holding on to your waiver priority for at this point?

Joba for holds is useless, the Yankees are only using him to start innings. At least that's for now, but it may be weeks until he comes in with men on base.
Gammons said that some members of the Indians claimed that Joba has the best stuff they have seen all season.
I'd take Joba over Buchholz, because his slider is better than Buchholz's curve. Also, Buchholz's fastball is ridiculously straight and he doesn't command it all that well.
