current roster debate - please help!

Here is the scenario in a nutshell (probably not for the faint of heart)...


Start of season...

Roster Spot 1: Pitcher A
Roster Spot 2: Pitcher B

Week 1...

MLB: Pitcher A goes on DL.
Owner: Reserves Pitcher A, Adds FA Pitcher C.

Result--

Roster Spot 1: Pitcher C – Pitcher A (DL)
Roster Spot 2: Pitcher B

Week 2...

MLB: Pitcher C goes on DL.
Owner: Reserves Pitcher C, Adds FA Pitcher D.

Result--

Roster Spot 1: Pitcher D – Pitcher C (DL) – Pitcher A (DL)
Roster Spot 2: Pitcher B

Week 3...

MLB: Pitcher B goes on DL, Pitcher A returns from DL. Pitcher C still on DL.
Owner: Pitcher B is reserved, Pitcher A is activated.

Result--

Roster Spot 1: Pitcher D – Pitcher C (DL)
Roster Spot 2: Pitcher A – Pitcher B (DL)


And now the point of contention:


The Commissioner claims that Pitcher C must automatically be dropped as a result of the last move, since Pitcher A was initially linked to that pitcher and has since been activated. The owner is stuck with Pitcher D for the rest of the year in that roster spot.


The Owner claims that Pitcher C remains tied to the roster spot since he was replaced by Pitcher D when he went on the DL. Since Pitcher C is still on the DL, he is still reserved and linked to Pitcher D.

What is the correct call here?

If the rule is not clearly stated, then you need to defer to the website you use, which I assume says that the owner (not the commissioner) is correct. I can't imagine why Player C is linked to Player A unless it is specifically stated in your league rules. If you have two DL spots, it should not matter who replaced who.

Yea, unless it clearly states it in your league rules, he should be allowed to keep pitcher C. The 2 DL slots don't get assigned to a specific roster slot.

Here is what the constitution says:

"
When the reserved player returns, the owner has 1 full week plus the partial week to decide which of the 2 players he will waive. Failure to notify the commissioner will result in the reserved player being waived. A player reinstated from the reserve list may not replace anyone else on the owners roster accept the replacement player, unless there is a natural opening on his roster (ie: injury or demotion of another player) and the reserve player qualifies at that position.
"

Which in this case, is Pitcher A moving into the "natural opening" as a result of Pitcher B going on the DL. But nowhere else in the constitution does it specifically address what happens in this scenario regarding Player C.
