Scary stuff. The bridge was rated as "structurally deficient"? I wonder if I can get a list of the structurally deficient bridges that are still being used so that I can avoid them.

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawleny said there 60 to 70 thousand bridges in the country that have received that rating in some manner. Apparently it's a prevalent problem.

yeah i saw that. at first they said it doesnt appear to have terroristic ties, but im hearing some whispers that something fishy may have happened.

Where have you heard those whispers? All reports I've seen have said that Homeland Security and the FBI ruled out any terroristic ties.

MSNBC had a list of all the bridges by state.

It's worth nothing that these terms don't mean that the bridge will collapse. "Structurally deficient" can mean that the bridge was designed for significantly smaller traffic loads, which can mean that it will cause traffic backups, that certain trucks won't be able to use it, or that it will collapse soon. Pretty wide range there.

Me thinks they should come up with a better schema. :-B
