1. Johan 2. Peavy 3. CC 4. Young 5. Haren 6. Becks 7. Lackey 8. Zambrano 9. Hamels 10. Bedard
I felt really bad leaving Lincecum off, but there's just soo many deserving SP's. It's really tough to chose because there is a lot of guys who make a strong case to be in here. Also, I'm not going to include Chris Carpenter as I don't know how he'll come back from surgery.
I think there are several issues with the current lists that need to be addressed. 1. Haren won't be in the top 5. He's regressing back to the mean which means his ERA and WHIP will rise accordingly. That'll keep him in the top 10, but not top 5. 2. CC has been extremely lucky. He'll win 20 no doubt but he doesn't have as much filthy stuff as you'd think. He doesn't make my top 5 either. 3. Hamels sure does. This guy is just dirty. I'd take him over the above two in a second.
So here's the list: 1. Santana 2. Peavy 3. Young 4. Hamels 5. Bedard 6. CC 7. Zambrano 8. Haren 9. Beckett 10. Shields (yeah I said it, you can't argue with a 6:1 K:BB ratio, eww....)
Notworthy: Liriano. At the end of the 2008 season he'll be on this list.
I can't believe people already put Bedard as #2 behind Santana. He has pitched very well and above expectations but seriously, would you even have had him top 10 two months ago? It's so funny how everyone is falling all over him now.

Agreed - I would take all 3: CC, Haren, and Zambrano over Bedard. Unless he goes the rest of the way undefeated and finishes with 280 + k's, I'm not putting him anywhere near Johan.

Please explain how CC has been extremely lucky. If anything, he has been the exact opposite with a BABIP well above the MLB mean. Also, he doesn't have filthy stuff? How many 6'7" 300 lb lefties do you know can throw in the upper 90s with a nasty change and curve?

Not even close. Way too unreliable to be near the top ten. I think Young and Haren are generally too high on these lists. I don't think Maine should be anywhere near the top ten, even in a keeper. If we're talking re-draft, Smoltz needs more credit. I'd put Bonderman toward the bottom or in the honorable mention category.
Also, it's funny how a half season of Haren and Oswalt have completely reversed their respective values. In fact, I don't think I've seen Oswalt on a list yet. He's got quite the history to just be writing him off.
