Does anyone know what will probably happen when to the yankee lineup when giambi comes back? With Melky is playing great right now, and damon is the DH, will he start at 1st or take bats away from damon?
"Jason Giambi batted 0-for-3 with a walk as the designated hitter for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. He's 1-for-6 with a home run at Scranton.
Yankees manager Joe Torre said it's unlikely Giambi will join the team on Monday in Toronto, but said he expects the slugger to be activated sometime during the team's road trip, which will take the Yankees to Toronto and Cleveland.
Torre added that the turf in Rogers Centre shouldn't be a problem if Giambi is activated while the Yanks are in town to take on the Blue Jays.
"He's going to DH probably, anyway," Torre said. "I don't think it's going to be an issue, and plus, the turf isn't what it once was." "
I just orchestrated a deal trading away Carlos Delgado, anticipating Giambi's return this week. I hope he comes back by mid-week. And I hope he gets full-time ABs right away.
yeah...i just got a deal done too, and it was pretty much made due to the fact that i was able to pick up giambi off the wire. i lost dotel as a CL last week and soria was gone. and my other closers this year have been trash for the most part (ray then walker now baez, izzy, ryan/accardo, weathers, and dotel) i sent derek lee packing for takashi saito. i figure i will take a hit in avg consider the platoon of c duncan/giambi. but its not like lee has been stealing a lot of bases anyways!!! has too be a career low year this year. i figure giambi cant be much worse than derek lee! it might even be a increase in the power department! lets go giambino!!!!!! i think giambi will get the bulk of the dh from here on out! damon has to get over his pussitis and get back in the OF, the same pussitis that seems to be ravaging the MLB this year!!!!!!!!!! (im not dropping any names) peace billy
Personal feelings aside, I will enjoy a few Giambi 12 RBI weeks. And he's usually good for it. With enough ABs he will be a bit of an upgrade over Delgado. Its a risk. The downside, far as I can see is the deal being a wash. I dealt Delgado, Nathan and Smoltz for Ordóñez and Jeremy Guthrie. For me, that was basically an Ordóñez for Nathan swap, as I needed to make room for Giambi anyway, and Smoltzy isn't in the best condition (numbers look good but mechanics are a mess).
