Closer situation in Texas?

With gagne dealt, what is the deal? i know otsuka is currently injured but how long is he out? is benoit worth a flyer (esp. in a league with pick-up limits)?

Everything I've read says that Otsuka will be shut down for at least a week before he begins his throwing program...out until at least the 2nd half of August...Benoit is a nice pickup (although TEX probably won't offer a ton of SV opps)...

The Otsuka situation is murky. Haven't heard when he's expected back, but I have heard that it could be until the end of August. If Benoit is out there, pick him up ASAP.

The team's official website reports Wilson will be used in some combination with Joaquin Benoit and Frank Francisco as the Rangers' closer if the trade sending Eric Gagne to the Red Sox goes through. Akinori Otsuka is still sidelined with inflammation in his right forearm/elbow.
Fantasy Source spin: Wilson is a long shot to get many saves for your fantasy team. Unless you're in a really deep AL-only league, don't take a flier on him.

A lot of closer situations start out like this. However, many times the guy with the best makeup for being a closer runs away with it. In this case, that's Benoit. He has the best numbers and the best stuff. Unless he implodes in his first few chances, he'll emerge as the guy.

I picked up Benoit since I'm not going to waste 3 spots on this situation. I figure he's the highest probability to get the spot, and if he doesn't, then I don't miss out on much if Otsuka returns in a 3-4 weeks.
