Willis in trelief

Postby kentx12 » Mon Feb 09, 2004 8:06 pm

This came from an article on the Marlins web page on sportsline.

Meanwhile, LHP Dontrelle Willis could wind up in the bullpen once RHP A.J. Burnett returns from Tommy John surgery rehab. Florida signed LHP Darren Oliver to fill the void in the rotation until Burnett's return, targeted for May.

Oliver went 13-11 in 32 starts for Colorado last year. If Florida's bullpen struggles, expect Willis to be used in relief while Oliver stays in the rotation.

Interesting. Willis was used out of the pen in the playoffs with some success so this could be a real possibility.

Wonder if the people who plan on taking him way too high to begin with realize they might be getting a reliever in disguise.

What about the people who saved him as a keeper. :,-(

do you really think that a "Dontrelle" on his game, will lose out to Darren Oliver? I don't. He he does, Then Dontrelle is struggling or injured and should be in the Minors. The bullpen would be awful for him. IMO its the worst thing they could do.

Put him in AAA!!!

Dontrelle is a great pitcher.....watch him in spring training, if he is hot I wouldn't worry too much about him moving to the bullpen, but if hitters start adjusting put him down on your list......I liked Dontrelle before he hit the pros, but it sounds like I am going to keep an eye on the situation as well.

Can someone post Dontrelles numbers out of the Pen please?

And say if he does go to the PEN, and lets say Armando Benitez struggles (which I see him doing) do you think Dontrelle would have a shot in the closing role? Or more like a long reliever?

I could actually see him as being a future closer but that may not be a good idea after all. His talent most likely is in SP. If he goes to the pen it is unlikely for him to get a shot at the closers role since Armando should pitch well.

that's insane. I'd keep D-Train. I can't see him getting bumped for Oliver.
