Braves get Octavio Dotel from Kansas City for Kyle Davies. As a Braves fan, I'm not sure that this is that great a move, unless they either use Dotel as full time closer instead of Wickman, or use him on the road where Wickman is terrible (look at Wickman's splits). I think this is a good move for Kansas City.

rotoworld.com reported it from the kansas city star
however now it reports this: The Octavio Dotel deal between the Royals and Braves is no lock to get done, as the Braves are still waiting to finalize the Mark Teixeira trade. For some undisclosed reason, the Braves aren't going to be ready to commit to the deal with the Royals before the Teixeira trade goes through, something that apparently won't happen until Tuesday. It's believed Atlanta will swap Kyle Davies for Dotel, who would likely set up Bob Wickman, but it's still possible Dotel could go elsewhere. The Mariners, Dodgers, Red Sox and Indians were among those interested.
I guess this is a true test of RotoWorld's accuracy, then, cuz they were saying unequivocally it was a done deal ~ 7 PM ET.
As a Dotel owner I have mixed feelings. I waited for him for weeks to get off the DL - I owned Soria for most of that time. I've been very happy with Dotel as a closer, considering the team he's on. Assuming he goes to ATL, I can understand why they like him, and I'm still undecided as to whether I'll drop him. I definitely think he has the ability to unseat Wickman. Soria gets a lot of love around here, but I think Dotel is the better pitcher of the two....
One of the reasons why I dealt for Soria was because of the high possibility that Dotel will be dealt.
This deal does give the Royals a nice young arm in the rotation for the rest of this season and for the 2008. Davies would be a nice addition to the Royals staff.
As for the Braves, if this deal does go through, I can see two things as a possibility: 1) they are planning to audition Dotel along with Soriano to close for next season and let Wickman go 2) With Gonzalez out for the rest of the season, it gives them another power arm to take his place.
It is not a bad deal for the Braves, but I like it more for the Royals.
I agree that it's a pretty good deal all around - if it's happening. I s'pose if it's hanging on the health of the players involved in the Tex deal, it will happen. It's still a bit odd that RW reported it as a sure thing while no one else is....
BTW - it's not as though I can't accept the reality of Dotel leaving. It's not going to tank my team or anything - I've just been skeptical of a deal because for weeks I've heard it's going down, and up 'til now it hasn't....
Wickman will likely be done after this season anyways but now that Atl is turning into a real contender I'm wondering if Cox will have added pressure to unseat Wickman as the closer or at least let Dotel close on the road.
