I would not doubt if they report one of his injuries has flaired up again. He looks horrible and keeps doing arm and shoulder exercises on the mound..He may not return.
7 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 6 K's...101 pitches...you posted this "Injured again" post about an hour and 20 minutes ago so he must be fine if he's gone 7 innings...I love coming to the cafe because the 411 is always available here first, but is there something we can do about having people NOT post stuff like this? There's nothing worse then seeing one of your stud pitchers in a headline like this...there was one earlier in the week with "Johan Santana injured?"...and that was garbage as well.
Now, if Smoltz is injured, I apologize for the rant, but I just wish people would wait for concrete evidence before making posts like this.
I wasn't able to watch the game, so I don't know how Smoltz looked. But I got this from the Braves website:
Per Mark Bowman: While his on-field mannerisms might signal there is lingering discomfort in his right shoulder, John Smoltz's results and words defy this notion.
I posted back before the ASB, that I noticed Smoltz stretching his arm out after every pitch. Of course he then went on the DL. I still don't know if he's always done that, (arm stretching, or exercising as Kemper put it), or if his shoulder is indeed still bothering him. Maybe it's just something he'll have to deal with the rest of year, or maybe it's something they'll shut him down with at some point. I don't know. We'll have to see if there's anything to this or not.
He appeared to favor his shoulder, doing arm-over-arm stretching and loosening motions. But he insisted afterward that the shoulder wasn't a problem and there was no reason for alarm.
"I'm just old," he said, smiling.
This doesn't sound good. Looks like his shoulder is still bothering him, but it looks like he's gonna pitch through it!!
