Towards the end of '05 he made 11 relief appearances. Over those 11 appearances - 12 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 17 Ks, 2.25 ERA, .75 WHIP, .100 BAA. He then got shut down since the Cubs were out of it, so that he could have the surgery he needed and be ready for the '06 season (which obviously didn't work out). Hopefully those relief appearances are an indication of what he can bring to the Cubs bullpen though.

I know people think that he won't take over the closer role this year but what happens if Wood pulls a Gagne/Smoltz which is a real possibly if he can somehow stay healthy?

Then he becomes the closer next year if Dempster stumbles too much. Don't think there's a chance of him taking it over this year with all the question marks and how Dempster has pitched thus far.

Wood coming back will be a huge boost for that team. If he is completely lights out and Dempster looks shaky, then I can see them making the move. I'm really excited for Kerry.

Right now what I like best about Wood is my ability to slot him as a starter in Yahoo and (hopefully) rack up some cheap HLDs. I have a real affinity for set-up guys with Starter eligibility (ie, Scott Downs and Casey Janssen).
