Brewers aquire McClung from DRays...

ST. LOUIS (TICKER) -- The Milwaukee Brewers on Friday acquired righthander Seth McClung from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in exchange for righthander Grant Balfour.

McClung has spent the entire season at Class AAA Durham, where he owns a 1.99 ERA in 40 appearances. Between 2003 and 2006, the 26-year-old righthander appeared in 85 games - 37 starts - and compiled a 17-24 record with a 6.27 ERA.

Balfour was designated for assignment by the Brewers earlier Wednesday after posting an 0-2 record with a 20.25 ERA in three games.

This is odd. I guess this could mean Gallardo will stay in the rotation.

Well, the Brewers needed to open up a roster spot for Linebrink. They needed Manny Para to start today, so they needed to keep him on the roster, leaving Balfour as the odd man out. Problem was, he was out of options. I think it's a great pickup for the Brewers, in the they got another young reliever (who was immidiatly sent to AAA-Nashville) who could help them next season (both Cordero and Linebrink are FA's after this season).
