Cleveland Indians on the verge of trading for Texas Rangers OF Kenny Lofton

Categories: Breaking News, Indians

The Indians are on the verge of acquiring Rangers outfielder Kenny Lofton, a source said Friday afternoon.

An official announcement could be made later today.

It's uncertain whom the Indians are giving up in the trade.

Indians General Manager Mark Shapiro and Assistant General Manager Chris Antonetti could not be reached.

Lofton is the Indians' all-time leading base stealer and a fan favorite. Lofton, 40, is hitting .303 with seven homers and 23 RBI for the Rangers. He has 21 steals, and he's making $6 million this year.

He most recently played for the Tribe from 1998 through 2001.

If this goes through...does that mean it's Jason Botts time?

An excerpt I found:

The Rangers are likely to do more evaluating as the season progresses. Daniels said Friday that Jason Botts, who is having a big season at Oklahoma, could be in the Majors "shortly." The Rangers are trying to find a new home for Sammy Sosa but there is nothing imminent.
