Who's the next closer to go? Anybody on the WW i need?

Postby paradeez10 » Fri Jul 27, 2007 1:58 am

just wondering who we think the next closer to be is. i've missed the boat on guys like corpas and jamie walker, so just wanna pick some brains to see if i can snag someone before its too late. i just recently picked up greinke (eventhough the word is soria's next in line), and rafael betancourt on cleveland, but who knows what happens with either of them. thanks guys.

I'd watch Rauch and Otsuka (DL) closely.
Gagne and/or CCord might be dealt soon.

Keep an eye out on Kansas City. Dotel is very likely to be dealt by the Tuesday deadline to probably the Cubs or the Dodgers. If Soria hasn't been picked up for some reason, he's as good of an option as any.

Chad Cordero has been worth a pickup the whole year if you ask me. He's secure in his closers role, even though it's on a poor team. Sure, he's blown some saves in the few chances he's gotten, but still has racked up 20 of them. Not too bad. Even if he doesn't get traded he is worth owning. A trade to a contender is just a little bonus.

As far as setup men to keep your eye on in case their respective closers get traded (present closer in parentheses), I'd watch:

Otsuka (Gagne)
Rauch (C. Cordero)
Soria (Dotel)

I'd also watch these guys considering their closers have been less than spectacular this year:

Betancourt (Borowski)
R. Soriano (Wickman)
The entire Detroit middle relief staff (Jones)
Casilla (Embree/Street(injury))
Jonathan Sanchez (big stretch here) (Hennessy)

After you dump or DL Pence and Utley you have some space on your roster. I like Soriano as a choice.

How can you say Borowski has been less than spectacular? He has 29 saves. His ERA is a little high but that was mostly due to some non save opp. games. The last game he got into trouble was against Texas and that was because his defense let him down.He did however still pick up the save.

What about Fuentes getting his job back in Colorado? Corpas has looked great, but Fuentes was so solid before those string of blown saves.
