this is the statement that i have a problem with. what he did was wrong. he should have been kicked out. but it wasnt HORRIBLE AND GUTLESS. it was stupid and thoughtless. nothing more.
i was talking about him running away afterwards as being gutless.

Haha, so what... you'd prefer that instead of walking back up the stairs, he go down to the railing jump onto the field and be a man? Please. The guy was probably tipsy and threw a bottle at him because he thought it would be funny. Either that or it was a hate crime against Piazza

You have a point. I stand corrected.
I personally was more annoyed at the fan that high-fived him as he was escorted out. At least the original guy probably was drunk (or maybe he really was a prick... who knows.)
Piazza has always been a fairly classy guy. If that was Frank Francisco that got hit in the head, or Ron Artest, that fan would have had hell to pay. Glad to see Piazza not lose his cool, channel his anger into getting a pivital hit, and just deal with the situation in a very level headed manner.

did you even read the other posts i wrote in this thread besides the one you quoted? if not, buzz off and don't butt in to discussions half-assed.
i already said he could have apologized with hand gestures or facial expressions or whatever from where he was standing. who the hell said anything about going down to the field? if he was within throwing distance, piazza would've seen him apologizing if not hear him.

and your point? why do snakes gould and you talk about how this particular person must have been drunk or wasn't thinking or whatever else about his condition to make excuses? i'm talking about the right thing FOR A MAN IN HIS SITUATION TO DO. him being drunk doesn't change anything. so what, if i'm drunk driving and run over someone and just drive off because i'm too drunk to care, that changes what i SHOULD have done? (stopping and getting out and helping that person regardless of legal consequences.)

I'm pretty sure that if your drunk, your not thinking that coherently. You really think that if he was drunk he would be in the right mind to apologize?

he was thinking coherently enough to run away. and i doubt he was falling-down throwing-up groping-girls drunk. he was probably drunk just enough to be an abnoxious jackass.
I'm glad he will press charges. You can't let chuckle heads like that off easy. This behavior in any situation is just adolescent. I'm glad Piazza is going to be the one to spank his butt via assault charges. Maybe this guy who threw the bottle never had anyone fight back before via physical, or with the law.
So now that he will have a record, cannot go to anymore games in that stadium. Maybe this bozo will think twice before he starts a fight out in public somewhere else. Maybe he will think twice before throwing a half empty can of soda at a car on the street that cut him off. Maybe he just might think the other guy will kick his arse, or press charges again.
He will get a dose of humility now via the PIzza man.
I LOVE IT!
What a li'l punk.

Snakes Gould wrote:completely gutless? its not like he threw a barbell at him. it was a water bottle. the fan shouldnt have done it, but im sure he knew piazza wouldnt have gotten hurt if he got hit by it. im not making excuses for the fan, but the guy isnt going to hell for this. he got kicked out of the stadium and was removed.
I was standing next to a friend in broad daylight at Woodstock '99 when he got hit in the head with a plastic water bottle. The bottle was only a quarter full but the wound still required ten staples to close. If you think a water bottle can't do damage, think again.
lol, well ive also been hit with water bottles in my life, and ive never even come remotely close to getting hurt. plus, i dont think your friend was wearing a batting helmet designed to withstand a 90 mph fastball.
So, water bottles can only damage the head?? I didn't know that.
