Where can I improve? WHIR

Postby northjersey78 » Thu Jul 26, 2007 12:19 pm

12 Team, H2H Yahoo league. 3 keepers (ARod, Crawford, Oswalt). I am currently in 2nd place - top 2 teams get a 1st round bye.

R, H, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS, IP, W, L, CG, SHO, SV, K, ERA, WHIP

C - Joe Mauer
1B - Chris Duncan
2B - Jeff Kent
3B - Alex Rodriguez
SS - Miguel Tejada (should be activited tomorrow)
OF - Carl Crawford
OF - Alex Rios
OF - Johnny Damon
UT - Ryan Braun
BN - Adrian Gonzalez
BN - Kenny Lofton
DL - Michael Cuddyer

SP - Roy Oswalt
SP - Jeremy Bonderman
RP - Francisco Rodriguez
RP - Jonathon Papelbon
P - Brad Lidge
P - Luis Vizcaino
BN - Tim Lincecum
BN - Chad Billingsly
BN - Kelvim Escobar
DL - Phil Hughes

I'm near the top in all offense categories except for stolen bases, AVG and OPS.

I am 2nd in saves and towards the top in ERA, but my WHIP is dead last and I don't rack up nearly as many innings or wins as most of the league. My pitching has been middle of the road most of the year, especially wit my ace Oswalt struggling.

I'm thinking the obvious solution is to replace Vizcaino with a starter - and when Phil Hughes becomes healthy that will probably be the move. Gonzalez has been struggling big time - I have Chris Duncan filling in for now. I got lucky in a trade - dealt Pence & Varitek for Mauer and Billingsly - Pence got injured 2 days later.

Suggestions? WHIR.

In a roto league, there's usually guys who are way over on innings at the end of the season, which makes their pitchers worthless to them. I'd try to trade for some good pitching, so you can catch up on innings. You don't want to end up with wasted innings at the end of the year.

This really only applies if you have a innings maximum in your league.

what about playing lofton instead of damon? he is hitting .303 compared to damon's .245. pretty much even on steals, runs and hits.

how about mine..

It's a H2H league, not roto. There is no minimum or maximum on innings - I just meant I usually lose those categories on a weekly basis.

I actually just picked them both up off of waivers - I may split time with them to try and catch up on steals.

yup, thats why i picked up lofton, the old man can still run, and a + 300 batting avg wont hurt.

Excellent offensive squad at this point. Tejada's return should do nothing but help you. The only minor flaw I see at this point is one week spot in the OF while Cuddyer is on the DL. Damon or Lofton simply don't produce as well and consistently as Cuddyer so if you can get by while he's injured, you should be set come playoff time.

Your pitching looks good as a whole but is relying a bit heavily on a few young players in Lincecum, Billingsley, and Hughes when he returns. A bit risky but also with a big upside if they continue to play well. Please help me squad out: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=310040
