I work for the Brewers at their minor league training complex in Phoenix and I had the chance to meet and watch these minor league guys play during Spring Training. Garrison was just named the Florida State League Player/Pitcher of the Week and Inman was easily the top pitching prospect in the minors once Gallardo was called up to Milwaukee. Inman was promoted from High-A Brevard to AA Huntsville and had been pitching very well in his last few starts.
It baffles me that we gave up these young arms for just Linebrink, who this year, hasn't shown the same effectiveness or numbers as he had in the psat few years. Nevertheless, I agree, it does bring another quality arm into our pen and begs the question if maybe Turnbow may be moved before the July 31 deadline.
So will Linebrink be the main set up guy now or will they stick with Turnbow in that role? In past years I would have said it was a no brainier for Linebrink to be used in the 8th, but with his numbers this year who knows.
A deal I'm mixed on. Inman has hit a wall in his jump to AA (5.45 ERA, 42 K/16 BB), although I think he still has a big league future. He's a poise/command type pitcher who profiles as a #4ish starter, who could be more of a 3 or he could flame out when he gets to better hitters. Garrison is kind of intriguing, a 20 year old lefty starter pitching very well in A+ ball. His jump to AA eventually will be telling. Thatcher will be 26 this year in AAA, but he does profile as an okay big league lefty specialist maybe. He's more the throw-in type. I'm happy we're making a move to help now, we have a very solid bullpen now with Villanueva-Wise-Turnbow-Linebrink-Cordero, and it's possible Linebrink could be the closer next year if he would return at a price cheaper than Cordero. I'm a little apprehensive because Linebrink's numbers are down a little bit this year, but you do tend to see more flucuations with relievers and his career numbers certainly suggest he'll be fine. We'll see I guess, this is definitely a run for the playoffs kind of move.
Inman got hammered once he got promoted to AA though as the previous poster said he was starting to look better. I personally think Inman is a minor league ace and a MLB #3 at best. IMO, the Brewers are are selling high on Inman and they have Jefferes & Parra (who I think is their #1 pitching prospect now). This moves proves that the Brewers are going for it all since CoCo Cordero and Scott Linebrick are both FA after this year. The secondary move would be to move Turnbow who is the only signed closer-type pitcher in the bullpen. Maybe Mil can get CoCo or Linebrick to sign but if not...trading Turnbow could be a huge mistake and I personally think all 3 stay til the end of the year.

The thing about Inman is that his stuff doesn't profile into a big-time starter like Gallardo's. With a bunch of young talented arms already on board (Gallardo, Villanueva, Parra, and further down with guys like Jeffress, Braddock, etc) these two young arms are somewhat expendable. Young arms are never really expendable, but this is one case where Inman might be kind of blocked here. I agree that we could see Turnbow move. I saw Jermaine Dye rumors, I'm not sure I'm sold on that, but we'll see.
