Was anyone else as surprised as I was by this note that appeared on Yahoo recently? Actually from Stats.com it appears...

Jul 24 Fuentes has been taking treatment for a strained muscle beneath his left armpit and is scheduled to play catch Tuesday, according to the Rocky Mountain News.
Advice: Fuentes, who is on the disabled list, appears to be making slow progress with his injury. He experienced soreness during his most recent rehab stint. Monitor the developments, but he has little fantasy value.

Did I miss something? Has Rockies management given any indication that Fuentes won't be reclaiming his job when/if he once again becomes healthy and productive? I know they haven't made any commitment in this regard, but this is the first suggestion I've seen that Fuentes has "little fantasy value."

I agree. He still has some value. I'm holding him on the DL for now with a wait and see approach. The guy was nails, went through a bad stretch and then got hurt, but I think he can still be a good closer.

Definately hold on to him if he's on the DL and not taking up a roster spot. Whether he ever makes it off the DL is a different story. I supect the Rockies will take their time getting him back so long as Corpas is as lights-out as he has been.

It hasn't really been discussed yet since Fuentes is still on the DL, but I'm sure the topic of who is the closer will come up when he returns. I think he needs to prove himself in relief before regaining the closer's role considering how well Manny Corpas is pitching.

Is Corpas definitely the closer? I thought they were closing by committee, but looking at the game log, it appears he is getting the save chances.

Corpas is definately the closer at least while Fuentes is out. There was talk of a committee earlier but Corpas has gotten every save opp since then, and has converted every one. He's been lights-out. If Corpas is still available (which I doubt) you should snap him up.

Does anyone think Soria has more upside value as a closer than Fuentes? I don't want to hold on to Fuentes, but I also remember the 20+ saves he gave me prior to his meltdown.

This is a bad situation, what do you think I should do. So, i have Fuentes and Chris Ray (who went on the DL today) and they're both taking up a roster spot. Would Fuentes have a better chance of getting his closer role back before Chris Ray returns? Who would be better to just drop because i have Ben Sheets taking up my DL spot.
