3 teams have protested this trade, should I veto??

Postby Pack83 » Wed Jul 25, 2007 11:36 am

Team A gives up Konerko, Torii Hunter and Erik Bedard.
Team B gives up Fielder and Oliver Perez.

I been the commish of this league for 7 years now and have never had to veto a trade, I've never even had one protested but 3 teams have spoken out about this one. I don't think I'm dealing with collusion here, I know each of these owners pretty well and don't think that would happen so if I veto it would be because of an extremely unbalanced deal.

Simple question guys, should this be vetoed? Thanks for the help.

Team A gives up Konerko, Torii Hunter and Erik Bedard.
Team B gives up Fielder and Oliver Perez.

I'm struggling to see who this deal even favors... I guess the guy getting Konerko, Hunter, and Bedard.

If Team A needs power and has speed and pitching to give up, then I can see why he'd do it. Especially if he has his eye on someone in free agency.

At this time of year, it is more about need than value... how can a trade help me move up in categories while preventing others from doing so. Maybe Team A is trying to help Team B in SP so that he can catch Team C (who is ahead of Team A) in ERA and WHIP? That's perfectly legit in my mind.

Not in my opinion: I'm one of those who feels trades should only be vetoed if there is collusion suspected. People should be free to make bad trades, and it's not anyone's right (to me) to say what trades are fair for other people.

I certainly think that trades that are very lopsided should be vetoed...

This trade really isn't that lopsided at all. Prince is the best player in the deal. I'm guessing the guy giving up Konerko/Hunter has plenty of OF depth to the point that Hunter (overrated right now IMHO) isn't even necessarily starting every day.

I wouldn't veto this. The only guy in there that might be a first rounder next year is Prince. I'd probably rather have the Konerko side if I needed an upgrade in OF and SP, but the Fielder side if I felt set at most positions.
