The folks who are down on Giles sound to me a lot like the folks who were down on BBoone at this time last year. The "expert" publications focused on the fact that he'd never again come close to his 2001 stats, ignoring the fact that his 2002 stats were 2nd best among ALL 2B. As a result, I was able to select BBoone in the 7th round, one of the keys to a winning team. Please keep on panning Giles, so I can pick him up the same way.
Sometimes, we can be too smart for our own good. Last year's performance is certainly not the only indicator, but I think folks are being too quick to dismiss .3904 OBP and .5263 SLG in 551 AB with 101 R, 69 RBI, and 14 SB. That was Giles who put up those numbers, and looked just as good at the end of the season as he did at the beginning, wasn't it?
