The Utah Jazz were formerly the New Orleans Jazz and the Los Angeles Lakers were the Minneapolis Lakers, the name lost some meaning with the movement.

The 49ers and 76ers have historical references to groups of people in those years. Nothing wrong with that. The San Francisco Miners and the Philadelphia Signers?


Stanford Cardinal, not Cardinals, but Cardinal. And their mascot is a tree.

I like the SF Miners. Sounds much better. Perhaps the Philadelphia Insurgents.
