A friend and I were having this discussion a while back about what team in sports has the worst nickname. It could be because it's not threatening, dumb, or just weird. For example, the New Jersey Nets? A piece of equipment? It's not even equipment really! That would be like a baseball team named the Arkansas Warning Tracks. Your thoughts...
Hal·la·day, n. 1. every fifth day in Philadelphia. 2. a day of rest for the bullpen. 3. innings eater. 4. doc. 5. ace.
What the hell's wrong with Sox? And Knicks is a characterful name that identifies the team strongly with the place they play, so I quite like it- it's no worse than 'Hoosiers' or 'Dodgers.'

Utah Jazz is a pet peeve of mine. That nickname was fine when the franchise was in New Orleans, but having been to Salt Lake City a couple of times... I'm pretty sure it's the city you would LEAST associate with jazz in the entire US.
Someone 'splain to me why they didn't just start fresh with a new name when they moved out there...

also, I think Panthers is one of the coolest team nicknames... partially because panthers are cool animals, and it was also my high school's nickname.
