Exactly. John Olerud had it right. No reason to have your life at risk like that in such a relatively safe/non-violent game.

John Olerud I believe had a condition that made it necessary for him to wear a helmet, but you are right. I think especially the 1st and 3rd base coaches now should be wearing helmets. I don't know if they will, but it's "better to be safe than sorry" for lack of a better term.

rip very sad indeed.


the questioned i wanted to know is did he try to move away from the ball? i know it was a line drive but the ball of a wooden bat can only go as fast as the pitcher pitches it so if pitcher pitches 90 the ball can only come at u 90 mph or less. unlike metal bats which can go faster. i agree though coaches on field should wear helmets.

How sad. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. They need to make 1st/3rd base hitting coaches wear batting helmets. Especially in leagues that use aluminum bats.

It can still come off faster. As for Olerud, he had an aneurism earlier in life.
