James Shields??

yeah Im watching replacements for him now but I plan on dropping him soon, his next start is at Boston and a real tough 2nd half schedule... cant afford to keep him

someone like adam wainwright would be a decent replacement if anyone plans on dropping Shields. he's 4-1 in the past month with a mid-2 ERA and a so-so WHIP.

I don't own Shields, but the matchups aren't favorable for TB

upcoming opponent x # of series

CLE x1
DET x1
NYY x2

TB is also scheduled to face contenders like SEA and LAA + TOR.

Shields likely won't get a start in all the series above, but I would be hesitant to start him against BOS, CLE, DET, and NYY. It looked like batting practice last couple times he faced the pinstripes and even many of his outs were line drives. On the plus side, TB does face BAL 4 times and I would think Shields might dominate in those starts even if Tejada is back.

Read what you will into TB's schedule. If I owned him, I'd be inclined to sell ASAP

For what it's worth, Shields has dominated Det, Cle, and Bal this year. He has the capabilities to beat good teams if you just look at his splits, it's just clear that NYY won't be one of them. Boston is still yet to be seen.

i totally agree. the only teams to really ropugh him up this yr are the yankees mainly and col and ariz. u cant ssume shields will pitch bad because he has a rough schedule. besides the yankees no american league team has hit shields well on a consistent basis. as for shields falling k and bb ratio he faced the the angels who are a very free-swinging contact type team so thats why he didnt strike the angels out and the yankees are a very patient team so they look for good pitches to hit. im going to hold on to shields to see what happens but the thing that would concern me most is his innings pitched.

Honestly, D-Train isn't worth picking up in an 8-man league and about Wainwright and Bush, they've both been performing well the past month. Wainwright 4-1 and Bush 4-2 but I would hold onto Shields for a wee-bit longer just to see how he performs.
