James Shields??

I realize that the Yanks are a high-powered offense, but even before today, he has looked shaky. After such a dominating start to the year, he was bound to come down to earth, but I didn't expect it to be this drastic. Has he completely lost it for this year? Worth holding onto? Have any trade value left?

i wouldn't worry...all young pitchers have bad outings...but this one was more then bad

Just saw the above post ^^ - every one of his multiple bad outings have been real bad....

It seems hitters are locking onto his changeup, the Yankees in particular. I saw it last game against the Yanks too, he breezed through the first couple of innings but the 2nd and 3rd time through the lineup the Yankees saw his changeup very well and was locked in. I believe the changeup is his bread n butter pitch followed by a fastball and a mediocre curve and when they start seeing it and sitting on it, it spells 10 run innings. I'll still hang onto him but I'll be very careful against who to start him against since TB's schedule is very rough from here on out.

True words. He's looking at alot of losses and I would definitely cut in shallower leagues. I'm thinking about dropping him for Hughes...

Shields is a rookie and has thrown a lot of innings. Note that his strike out rate has dropped even before the recent bad outings. I think he has "hit the wall"

keepers & dynasties....of course you keep him. In a 10-12 team league, you consider your options.

Yeah, hitters are definitely onto his changeup. His K/9 is down and he's giving up way more runs than usual. I don't think Shields will see a dramatic drop in his ERA but let's hope with a healthy B.J. Upton off to a great start, his high-3 to mid-4 ERA can hold up
