From Rotoworld:
Jul. 20 - 1:41 pm et
The Yankees are calling up Shelley Duncan from Triple-A for Friday's game.
Chris's brother and Dave's son will be making his major league debut. The 27-year-old Duncan was hitting .295/.380/.577 in the International League. The Yankees can hope for some Shane Spencer-type magic, but he's likely to prove to be a quad-A player.

Also from Rotoworld:
Jul. 20 - 5:35 pm et
Yankees purchased the contract of first baseman Shelley Duncan from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Duncan would need for the Yankees to give Johnny Damon some time off in order to have any fantasy value at all. The other possibility would be a slump from Andy Phillips. As things stand now, he doesn't figure to play much.

27 is pretty old for a rookie, so it's not surprising that it sounds like he won't have much value.

have to try and temper expectations a little. The Tampa Bay relievers are some of the worst in the league...pick him up if you have room based on speculation, but don't drop someone of any value for him.

The Yankees have actually said that if Giambi cannot come back, they would like to try Duncan as their everyday DH for the rest of the season. If he keeps hitting, he will keep playing. They also played him at 1st a little today, so if he can figure out a position to play, that will only help him stay in the lineup more.

I do think its the TB pitching...they make minor leaguers look like superstars... :-o
they really really really need to trade for their bullpen, lol...

Totally agree ... TB pitching is AAA level (Fossum is AA) most of the time except Kaz, Shields, and Reyes.

I think Shelley will continue to get some challenge fastballs and therefore should produce some decent power numbers his first time through the league. He might have low BA numbers since he never hit higher than .267 before this year but if you need power then he's not a bad option.

127 dingers in 2639 minor league ABs or about 1 every 20+ AB and seems to still be improving

i watched all of duncans at bats. even though yea TB pitching is sub par his three homeruns came on a variety of pitches and he showed power to left and right field. also he has a good amount of plate discipline and drew a few walks.. this guy in AAA hit .295 with 25 homers, he can flat out hit. my only concern is that after a week he wont be able to adjust to pitching when scouts find holes in his long stroke.

From what I've seen, Shelley will return to the minors once Giambi is activated off the disabled list, which is like 2 more weeks.
