Playing for next year, looking for good prospects in deals

My chances at the playoffs took a big hit this week, so I am dropping my expiring contracts for prospects for next year. Let me know what you think of these offers:

Miguel Cabrera for Taylor Buchholz and 2nd round minor pick next year
Mark Teixeira for Elvis Andrus and 1st round minor pick next year

Do you think Buchholz will even get a crack in that Boston rotation?


Also, what prospects do you think I should be gunning for? I am currently loaded in OF talent, so I think I'm set there for a while. Here is my minor league roster:

agreed, like 3 quality prospect for each, especially for Miggy

and Taylor Bucholtz plays for the Rockies, Clay plays for Boston.

yea you really need to get more for those guys. M-Cab and Tex are guys who will be drafted in the 1st and 2/3 rounds respectively. You need elite prospects for these guys. Don't forget that M-Cab and Mark are proven players in the bigs and prospects have just done well in minor league ball, the bigs is a completely different story.

First off, I hope that is Clay Buchholz and not Taylor.

Secondsly, just like the others, I would want lots more for Mcab and Tex (especially Mcab) then what you would be receiving.

It is Clay, sorry for the typo. I'll also add that this is an auction keeper league, and both Tex and M-Cab's contracts are expiring at the end of the year. This means that they cannot be resigned by anyone and wind up in the auction again next year, so I might as well get something now instead of letting them go for nothing.

Remember, this is an auction league. They may be first round talent, but they are going back into the auction for next year. I will have plenty of cap to retain them. For M-Cab, I am getting arguably the #1 pitching prospect and a 2nd round pick. Who would you suggest I should be requesting in return for him? What type of offer would you value for a player on a 2 month loan?

That #1 pitching prospect is going to pitch half his games in fenway, I'd ask for at least Clay Bucholtz and another top 100 prospect. Get the words out there that you are shopping those 2, give the league 2 weeks(or whenever is the deadline) highest bidder wins. This approach usually works best.

Off topic here a bit, but it's weird seeing the different value of minor leaguers/ keepers in various leagues.

I traded away Pence and Andrew Miller for Grady Sizemore and Miguel Cabrera. A previous guy in this thread gave up two big minor leaguers just to get an upgrade.

Some people are saying you should get two top prospects just for one hitter.

While it looks like others are valuing minor leaguers / keepers even less than my league does.
