In today's Kansas City Star it was reported that Affeldt had half a fingernail permanently removed in an effort to solve the blister problem that has plagued him. "The result was pain-free and blister-free throwing in three sessions during the recent minicamp in the Dominican Republic. When a doctor removed half the fingernail, Affeldt said it was discovered that part of the nail was growing down into his skin and causing him to feel a "spike". "When they took that out, it relieved some pressure on my finger and I knew immediately that it was going to work. Now I've been throwing off the mound and playing long toss and I don't feel a thing", he said" Affeldt has an explosive fastball and a sharp dropping curveball....if this has corrected the problem he has the stuff to have an outstanding season......
