Tom Gordon destined to set-up Myers?

Is that what we should be expecting from Flash in the long run this season? Might get a couple save opps before Myers comes off the DL and then is thrust into the set-up role for the rest of the season? Should he be dropped in mixed leagues (if another viable option presents itself) if "saves" are the reason people are hanging on to him?

It's been say over and over and over......again for weeks that when healthy Myers will be the closer. That's been the Phillies official line for quite a while now. BTW if you've avoided all news sites then you probably don't know that Gordon is also pitching with an injury. It's also been speculated that with Myers possibly returning next weekend, barring setbacks, that Gordon may not get any save ops. It's been said the phillies just might stick with 6 fingers until Myers returns. My guess is they're more worried about being careful with when they use Gordon so that when they do he'll be effective and not land back on the DL. Unless Myers has a setback I don't think Gordon will have much value unless your league has holds as a category or the Phillies have been lying about Myers role.

That was the plan the last I saw on the subject, but that was a couple weeks ago. If Gordon pitches hurt next year odds are they'll need someone else to close. That could mean Myers closes again next year or the Phillies might look to sign someone else to close next year. He's more valuable to the team as a SP so I'd guess they'd look to sign a closer. I've also heard rumors Moyer might decided to retire and if he does that leaves the Phillies with Hamels and Eaton as the only sure bets in the rotation next year and Eaton really sucks. If the phillies don't put him back in the rotation next year then they're even more stupid then they were taking him out of the rotation this year.
