Fuentes back today 7/19

Postby AdvRider » Thu Jul 19, 2007 11:18 am

Supposedly to be be eased back into closer's role, particuarly as Corpas has done well in his stead (12.2 IP 1 W 3 SV 13 K 2.13 1.26). Hurry back Fuentes, I'm desperate for saves. :-[

FUENTES RETURNS
Left-hander Brian Fuentes is expected to be activated from the disabled list for tonight's game in Washington.

Fuentes, who was sidelined with a pulled muscle below his left armpit, struck out two of the three batters he faced in a rehabilitation assignment with Single-A Asheville (N.C.) on Tuesday.

Manager Clint Hurdle said Fuentes threw 22 pitches, hitting 92 mph with his fastball. With right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez moving into the rotation, the likely move would involve left-hander Tom Martin or right-hander Matt Herges.

There's definitely going to be some kind of battle for the closer role in colorado between Fuentes and Corpas but I have a strong feeling Fuentes will come out as the closer and Corpas will just return to setting Fuentes up.

I ended up dropping Fuentes in a shallow league but in a deep, deep league I have kept him for the very same reason and I think he will win back his position as Rockies Closer.

Corpas is dealing some serious relief work right now and it is definitely a good sign for the Rockies bullpen. We will all have to monitor the status on both of them this coming weekend.

I guess that Fuentes will just get more SV opps with RP's like Corpas keeping the lead for him. ;-D

I thought at first that Fuentes would get the job back once healthy. However, Corpas has pitched quite well and it may make for an interesting decision by the Rockies brass. I would expect some other teams in need of relievers/closers will probably ask if either player is available between now and the trade deadline. All I can saw is be wary of the situation each day as it could change at the drop of a dime.

I'm interested to see what happens as well. Corpas has been lights out lately, so it might be hard to move him from the closer's role at this point. I guess we'll see what happens.

Guess I should have checked Rotoworld first:

Brian Fuentes won't be activated Thursday as planned because of tightness in his strained rib-cage muscle.

Fuentes was able to throw a scoreless inning in the minors Tuesday, but he didn't bounce back as well as hoped. He isn't expected to be activated until early next week at least.

This bites! Yahoo shows him off the DL already and I can't pick up another player until I move Fuentes out of the DL slot. Even though the caption on Fuentes clearly says he will likely remain on the DL through this weekend. Come on Yahoo, change his DL status back. :-t
