Anyone have any updates on who might be getting the job? Koch, Matre and Takasu are all over there. Are they just gonna let them fight it out during spring training? Any information on this situation would be appreciated.

That's what I've heard too. Koch will be given enough time until he proves he indeed does suck, at which time Marte will take over and the Sox will have given up on getting any value from the $6M+ they threw at Koch for this year.

I asked weeks ago why the Sox didn't give Marte the job in the first place. Watching him pitch is very impressive. His numbers are great. The response I got was that most managers don't use left-handed closers. They prefer to keep the leftie available for situational use. The word most of the winter has been that Koch gets another chance. IMHO,Koch will choke, and they will be using Marte early in the season and he may become the first dominant left-handed closer.

There's a Wagner guy now in Philly that may have a little argument

You mean the second or third dominant lefty closer. Can't forget about Wagner and Guardado.
PS: I think the mods might have something to say about that avatar. At the football cafe, they deleted posts that even contained a link to the news story because it contained pictures...

I am a big Cliff Pollite fan but he's a big time longshot for the job.
I like Damaso Marte but he hasnt been tested as a closer.
Shingo Takatsu is very similar to Chad Bradford.
I dont like Billy Koch simply because if he came to his old throwing ways (mid to late 90's fastball) we would have heard about it since he has been training hard this offseason.
It is Billy Koch's job to lose, Ozzie Guillen has claimed many times. But Koch is on very thin ice. If he gets the job and blows a couple saves early in the season he's done. Sox fans(including me) and management is very impatient when it comes to closing games. But that isnt entirely our fault because of our experiences with Koch last season, and with Foulke the year before.
