In my league there's really only two of us who are aware of the Jackson's, Greinke's, etc. so if I don't draft them there's a very good chance I can wait them out until I know they have solid spots in rotations then pick them up off the wire.
Last year for example I was the only one who took a flier on minor league guys, Tex and Victor Martinez, then got burned by Martinez. I know, martinez was my fault for not recognizing he was still a bit away but everything I had read had him as a good sleeper for last year. My problem seems to be drafting these young guys the year BEFORE they break out.
I have no qualms about drafting a Jackson, Soriano, etc. but I want to be sure that a) they have a solid spot on the big team and b)I don't get burned selecting them over a more established guy who already has a roster spot.
League's also a keeper league but we only protect 5 so unless one of them broke out into an MVP-type player, they wouldn't be on my protected list.
Thanks for the feedback guys
