One sided trade

Postby Mashug » Tue Jul 17, 2007 2:21 am

I am the commisioner of our league, and I have never felt the need to reject a trade before, until now. Am I wrong for rejecting this?

A-Rod, Rafael Soriano and Washburn

For

Crawford, Jenks and Francisco Cordero

It depends on league format, but I don't think this trade is that bad really....

Its basically Arod(and two useless throw-ins, there value is determined by league format) for a lesser(but still stud) hitter, and 2 locked in proven closers.

If I needed saves I would probably do this deal.

Not sure why you would consider this trade vetoable, if you have never felt like vetoing another trade. This is not an aweful trade. I of course would rather have the arod side; however, need and the potential for collusion needs to be taken into account. On the surface, I would not veto it.

It's not a horrible trade. I'd like some more info about the two teams involved. If they are both active and sincerely trying to win, I'd probably let it go through.

If the league is up in arms about it, given all of the information that they have, I'd put it to a vote. I could see either side.

I actually felt like the guy getting A-Rod was getting the raw deal. Closers are in super high demand in our league and the guy getting A-Rod was holidng 6 of them. Here's the kicker. He hasn't made a move all year until a two weeks ago, and doesn't seem to know what he's doing. Big Yankee fan who would have given anything for A-Rod. Everyone was putting up offers with no response. His biggest need is for starting pitching and stolen bases so I thought offering Washburn and Soriano was an insult. I asked them to discuss a bit more and the trade was modified by adding Guthrie and Gorzelanny. Despite some serious whining in our league, I approved it.

Thanks all for your opinions. I think I overreacted on this one, given the fact that we had a lame owner involved.
