Justin Upton deal

Postby powenM » Tue Jul 17, 2007 12:30 am

Ive also posted this in Commish corner but i know u guys know the best about minor lgers so id like to hear your side

A trade was vetoed recently in my league. It is causing major discord from the league on both sides of the issue. There is clearly no collusion but obviously it is onesided based(which is also in the rules) on the fact that Crawford is a proven stud

20team dynasty

Justin upton for CCrawford.

I realize that it is a dynasty & Upton has tremendous upside but he is atleast 2 years away from just beginning to produce and even then we dont know if he'll pan out.

Was this deal rightfully vetoed!!!!!
Just traded BButler, BWood & JLoney for Mark Teixeira, Ryan Theriot & Renyel Pinto in a DYNASTY LEAGUE. Big gamble I know!

No.

Crawford is proven, but he's far from a "stud". He's a 15 homer 40 steal guy with a middling average and low run production.

He's certainly worth more than Upton in a "keeper" league, but Upton has been called a once-in-a-generation player - the next Griffey.

In a dynasty league those are the typs of guys that no one ever trades and the ones that create dominate teams.

While Crawford is good, he's got a .650 OPS and 1 home run since May - so it's not like he's been a superstar this year.

If you think Crawford was worth more than Upton, I hope you were at least willing to offer the guy something better than Upton.

This is definitely not vetoable. JUpton could be producing in the bigs by next season. Crawford is a fantasy stud because of his speed, but honestly I think within 3 years, JUpton will be the better player. If I owned JUpton, I would consider this fair value in return for a generational talent.

As a Justin Upton owner in my dynasty league I wouldn't do the deal personally. Upton has more power potential. While his speed is not that of Crawford; Justin will steal his fair share. I think Crawford is overrated as a H2H fantasy player however, he's a very good roto player. I just think Uptons upside is that much more then Crawford.

I may be wrong on this, but didn't Upton set a timed record for speed from 1st to 3rd, or something like that? That would debunk the "fair share" idea. He may steal as much as Crawford! Who knows.

From what I understand, Upton is a legitimate 40/40 threat, and projects to do that quickly.

Crawford helps immediately though....I don't think the trade is vetoable, especially if the guy who traded Crawford is building for the future.

In my league...I wouldn't have even traded Upton for Crawford...if that helps explain anything. I value Upton's potential that much. A once in a generation talent.

.

I think it was a 60 yard dash for the camp he was in during his junior year of high school. That is not saying he is the fastest player ever, just the fastest player that has ever been in that particular baseball summer camp.
