Matt Kemp - What Do You Know/Think?

Does anyone know a pattern or method behind his playing time? ...like for instance does hit more against righties or lefties? more at home or away? ...or at this point is it still not defined. If anyone has an idea it would be greatly appreciated so I can know when to start him with confidence on certain days.

Hi---I`m no mlb scout\but my 2 cents worth:

it seems he ALWAYS plays against Left Hand Pitching. His R/L splits are only about .015 average points different, so I guess he`s being held out against Rightys with nasty curve balls.

I grabbed him shortly after he came back from crashing into a wall. I got him at minimum price in a dynasty league and am stoked about it. So far he has only helped me.

It does appear that he is starting regularly against LHP and sporadically against RHP. As a side note, it appears that the Dodgers will face at least 5 righthanders to start this week which might supress his playing time a bit: @ Houston vs. Sampson, Jennings and Albers, then @ Colorado vs. Lopez, Fogg, and then a LHP in Jeff Francis on Saturday. So unless you have access to a computer before game time, you'll have to guess when he might start any of these games.

No Kemp in the starting lineup tonight either vs. Jason Jennings
It will be the same lineup as last night.

Well, I try to look at it like this:

He`s got 32 ABs in the last 2 weeks . I`d say that is about a dozen less than the average starting OF.

During that span he`s batting .406 with 9 runs, 10 RBI and 3 HR. The production is certainly much better than the average starting OF. Or the average 4th, 5th OF on a fantasy team.

If Little keeps playing the Kemp card like that I`ll take it.

With Glaus out today, I'll roll the Kemp dice and start him.

BTW, looking at the left / right splits, I don't see the logic in sitting him against righties. There's no really significant difference in the stats (although it is still a small sample size, admittedly).

I think its more a matter of being careful as to which kind of curve balls he sees. Earlier in the year he was still getting 3 swing outs against tough curveballs. I think he`s getting better, and Little is def taking his time.

How are they gonna break the news to the kid that he`s not gonna hit .400 once he faces the full spectrum of MLB pitching?
