What's the story on Kason Gabbard?

Postby BillyHallDisciple » Mon Jul 16, 2007 8:59 pm

He seems to be dealing tonight against the Royals. Is he only supposed to be up while Schilling is on the DL? He's a relative unknown, does anyone have the goods on this kid?

I looked into him and it said that he had Schillings spot until he's all healed up

Re: Schilling and Gabbard

Found this tonight in regards to C.Schilling. It was taken from Rotoworld.

>Curt Schilling (shoulder) had no problems throwing 31 pitches in a two-inning simulated game Monday and is scheduled to start Saturday for Triple-A Pawtucket.

Schilling is expected to throw three innings Saturday and then five innings for Pawtucket on July 26. That puts him on pace to rejoin the rotation on the final day of the month. Jul. 16 - 5:23 pm et<

Kason Gabbard is now 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA, there's a good chance that Julian Tavarez will head to the pen when Curt Schilling comes off the DL. If your looking for a SP and they are few and far between in your league, then I would say take a flier on him.

Gabbard was not ranked in Baseball America's "07" Prospect Handbook. They rate the top 30 prospects on each team. He's been with them since 2001, so he is seasoned. He's had control problems in the past.

With the Red Sox's bats he will get goo run-support. I'm going to keep my eye on him, but will hold off for now.

Yeah, Tavarez seems to be working himself out of the rotation.

I'm from the Boston area so here is what insight I have on the guy ...I've seen all of his starts and he was basically mediocre in all of his others but tonights start against the oh so mighty Royals heh. He's a pretty decent prospect in the system but Clay Bucholdz and Jon Lester are generally regarded as superior pitchers. Couple that with the fact that he most likely will not crack the rotation as a full time starter I wouldn't get too excited about the guy yet. For some reason I think Francona loves Tavarez and is content with him for now, hence the holdup on Lesters reemergence into the rotation.

Digits from AAA Pawtucket for 2007 are pretty decent.

Saw him pitch against Detroit. He pitched well and gave up only 2 runs. Worth a pickup in deep leagues, as he may take Tavarez's spot once Schiling comes back. Tavarez has been awful in his last 4 or 5 starts.............
